What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is funding provided to schools in addition to main school funding. It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the previous six years, a slightly larger amount for children who have been adopted from care, a smaller amount allocated according to the children of service families, and an allocation for each pupil who has been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for 6 months or more. 

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, schools are to be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support the education of pupils from low-income families.

Our Pupil Premium Funding

At St James' CE Primary, we aim for every single one of our pupil premium funded children to reach at least national expectations in all areas. We aim for this group to achieve above the level at which all non-disadvantaged pupils nationally. We also want the attendance of our pupil premium funded children to exceed the attendance of all non-disadvantaged pupils nationally.

When considering how to spend our funding, we are mindful of the following principles:

• raising aspiration - we want all our children to experience and want the very best
• analysing data - we are rigorous in analysing our data so we know where our strengths and areas for development are
• identification of pupils - we ensure that every child is known and understood
• improving quality first teaching - ensuring that every child is taught well
• individualising support - we can respond to individual needs because we know our children well
